SINISTER MONSTER DOOM LEGION pt.8
Proof enough that this sock puppet has got the power to back up his threats. Be sure to tune in next week for the huge Halloween special!
And now, a recap of last week’s spectacular convention. This was my first time exhibiting at A.P.E., and, believe it or not, everything went perfectly!
First off, it was a tremendous honor to share a table with Kathryn Stewart (poetic master of zines and beautiful music, DeatHat) and Sean Petrilak (showing off some stunning artwork from his new on-line graphic novel 3000 to 1). I couldn’t imagine having any cooler crazy folks to have with me (and it’s always a pleasure to see Barron Storey again).
…and finally, a gigantic, colossal, Throgor-sized thanks to all of the customers who bought BOOKS! Your support is much appreciated and I hope you will spread the good word about the bad guy’s comic. Thank you, thank you, and you are sexy as all get-out.
What’s that? Did someone mention the BRAND-NEW SCAPULA BOOK? Why, yes, I did (crass, ain’t I?). Head on over to the STORE section to see all about it!
FYI…your store images aren’t showing up.
I am amazed how clearly the puppet master talks with that gag in scapula’s mouth. He is way better than Jeff Dunham.
Speechless… This story is magnificent so far. Frankly I have no words to decribe how much amazed I am. You are certainly talented, focusing your story on a betrayed and confused Scapula who is overrun by the accumulated hatred and disappointment for his miserable life, thus leading to him held prisoner to a sockpuppet which is actually his alter ego. My only querry so far is where do the superpowers of the sockpuppet derive from; or are you planning to reveal that later on? What I really see forward to is the meeting of Scap with Jem…
Also, I’m sad to say that I did not attend to the exposition that took place in San Francisco for a fair simple reason; I live in Europe. I’m sure it must have been very fun.
I’m not too ‘ShOcKeD’ that the expo was a ‘bLaSt’, D.H.! 🙂
Super sweet? hmmm… *I have them fooled… they think I am sweet… I have tricked them… heee hee, bwa… bwahh hahhaaa!*
Ahem… APE was sincerely cool. Obviously… since I met the puppet master of the legion of doomed super-villains there. Aidan… your puppet master creeps me out. But I love it… and Scapula! I now have something to look forward to on Sundays.
I never thought I would type these words – but that is the baddest ass sock puppet I have ever seen.
Poor Scap. It appears that he’s as much of a helpless victim as the rest of the guys. Love that next to last panel.
First off, my apo-polly-logies to everyone for all of the technical difficulties that have been occurring in the past few days. Mess-ups like this can often drive away readers, so extra huge thanks to you all for your patience and devotion.
Okay, now to respond to your nutcase rantings:
@Bearman It’s funny how the most famous puppeteers never had any qualms about their lips moving. Senor Wences was pretty good at keeping his lips shut. Edgar Bergen, however, was rather bad at hiding the fact that his mouth could be seen moving when he performed his puppets (in fact, one of Charlie McCarthy’s favorite comebacks to Edgar was, “I can see your lips moving!”); no surprise that Bergen made his career on radio. Jim Henson never even bothered with hiding his mouth; like Bergen, the top priority was bring the puppet’s character to life, not in hiding the fact that a human being was speaking for it.
As for Dunham, well…you can always shout, “SHUT UP! I KEEL YOU!”.
@montecristo Hey, look who’s back! And you’re definitely right on the mark; in fact, I wasn’t planning on revealing the psychological connection between Scap and Darkevilhelldeath-Man until much later in the storyline (woops), so you’re either an expert on reading a character’s motivations or you’ve been hacking into my computer and reading the stories before they even appear!
The con was fun, but nevertheless modest in size. I wouldn’t have made it had it not been in the same state (I might check out conventions in states neighboring California…maybe…). I’d imagine Europe would have some nice comic conventions; your continent tends to treat comics more as an art instead of a commercial property (and, on that note, everyone should head over to the Scapula STORE and see what’s for sale!).
@SpilledInky “Shocked” or…”SOCKED”?! Aaaaaaaugh! Here’s hoping Darkevilhelldeath-Man revitalizes the sock puppet craze not seen since “Sifl & Olly”!
@SquidRowMama Ladies and genitals, the one and only Bridget of “Squid Row”, my APE acquaintance! Meeting you was a lot of fun, and rest assured you will love your upcoming caricature.
That’s right, everyone, Bridget is getting a caricature of her lovely self and Hypnausea! How? She went over to the STORE and bought the new SCAPULA book, which includes a free caricature with purchase! How cool is that?!
@Dan Thank you very much, sir! Although I refer you once again to “Sifl & Olly”, particularly two characters: Stealth, the black metal rocker, and Precious Roy, the borderline insane spokesperson of many unusual and dangerous products. “SUCKERRRRRSSS!”
@George Scap is out at the moment. Whether or not that’s a good or bad thing depends on your perspective. Darkevilhelldeath-Man is giving him everything he’s ever wanted: power, wealth, success, respect…but who’s really making the most of it?
Ya know, that puppet master with the death ray eyes…. reminds me of my wife, er.. I mean, that puppet is causing a lot of strife… yeah, dats it! o.O
A Scapula update on Hallowe’en is most excellent! How convenient the holiday was scheduled to fall your update day Master Casserly!
@jynksie You’re the only non-Goth I’ve ever met who spells “Hallowe’en” in the traditional sense (with that oddly-placed apostrophe). Perhaps you spend your nights wearing black clothes and make-up?
What do you say, webcomic lovers? Let’s all pressure Scott into posting a picture of himself in Goth garb! Now THAT would be a Hallowe’en treat!
Well, Hallowe’en is quite the popular thing up here in New England, some even refer to it by it’s real name, Samhain! http://www.celebratesamhain.com/supporters.html
Anywhoo, I’m thinking your challenge here is a veiled attempt to see if you can get me to wear makeup… and I’m pretty sure my wife won’t let me into her stash, ya know, AGAIN! o.O …there was that incident back in 03!
Ah… now we see a way he was able to please those ladies! Great story so far, and now I can’t wait until next Sunday!
Well that was another amazing episode, Aidan. Thank you. And to those who don’t know, the original name of Hallowe’en, as Jynksie pointed out is spelled Samhain, but is pronounced Sow-een, as if it were speaking of matters of porcine importance. (I’m not a Goth either. Too old and not THAT old. lol)
@ DadaHyena All right, I’m not sure if this is the correct place to post such a message (probably it’s not although frankly i don’t care) but I was wondering if it would be better if you uploaded your comics in black and white rather than coloured versions. Or you could post both of them. Just throwing an idea there…
@montecristo …and just when I was breaking in the new Crayolas!
It’s something to consider, although for the sake of space and uploading time it’s easiest to keep it to just the color comic for now (as opposed to uploading both the pre- and post-colored versions). I do love Black and White as a medium, however, so the possibility of a completely desaturated SCAPULA storyline isn’t out of the question.
Gosh Darkevildeathman’s power is so amazing. I don’t know if I will be game to ever open my sock drawer again.
