SINISTER MONSTER DOOM LEGION pt.9
HAPPY HALLOWEEN! How fortunate to have this beloved celebration of creeps and creatures fall on a Sunday (in that it’s SCAPULA comic update day…I know all of you trick-or-treaters and partygoers have school and work tomorrow, but just try to enjoy yourselves anyway).
Today’s comic is also a celebration of another upcoming horrifying event: Tuesday marks the Two-Year Anniversary of the SCAPULA webcomic (and, coincidentally, the 83rd birthday of my comics hero, Steve Ditko). Lord knows I never thought I would make it this far, although I really owe it all to the support of my awesome, loving and naughty readers. Give yourselves a big round of hugs and gropes, because your enjoyment is what keeps this comic going (and if you want it to stop…well, you can always read Spider-Man).
Have a scary great time tonight, everyone, and be sure to leave some comments telling about your night of mischief!
Visually stunning that you can cram so many people into a panel and it still seem fluid and and not overwhelming! That Indian lady in lower left hand corner… vah-vah-VOOM! hubba-HUBBA! o.O (ahem)
Congrats on 2 years, heres to 20 more (no pressure)! *smirk*
Excuse me…I like to take a little extra time to grope myself.
Well I expect that was fabulous plotting, to have this piece fall right on Hallow’s Eve! Congratulations! I love Scap’s costume. I’m surprised that the evil sock puppet showed up there in person, though. Oh yeah the Betty Boop mask is priceless! oh, and Congrats on the completion of your second year. :`) Well done!
Oh! How terrifyingly Scary! What a Mob of homicidal monsters and up-to-no-gooders! That is one Halloween Party I DON’T wanna be at!
It looks like you had fun with the costumes and masks! I especially like the trick or treat plastic pumpkin that Scap is holding.
AND… congrats on the anniversary! Two glorious years of ridiculous mayhem… may the madness continue! As a new reader… I have a lot of catching up to do!
Wow – congrats on two years of hard-rockin’ work, Aidan! I always look forward to seeing what amazing stuff you will come up with next!
What I’m not looking forward to is coming up with a new Halloween costume. How can I go out in public knowing one of the characters in that last panel is already wearing my get-up. I won’t say which one … but let’s just say it’s pink. 🙂
HAPPY HALLOWEEN, gang!
@jynksie The lovely Indian girl is none other than Sita, star of Nina Paley’s extremely awesome feature-length animated film Sita Sings the Blues. Watch the whole thing for yourself here: http://www.sitasingstheblues.com
…and tell Nina I sent ya!
@Bearman “When I think about you, I…grope…myself?”
Okay, that karaoke tune went wrong (like everything else at this Halloween party).
@Jande It is kind of shoehorned into the storyline, but there was simply no way I was going to ignore Halloween when it was so completely timed perfectly into my post schedule. Happy coincidences make life great.
As for Betty Boop, it’s sad that most people today only know her from merchandise instead of her actual cartoons. I wouldn’t want to see “The New Adventures of Betty Boop”, but a proper DVD release of the classic films (cleaned-up and restored, natch) would be wonderful.
@SquidRowMama But Brig, this party was thrown just for YOU! Who else would be tough enough to hang with the Sinister Monsters?
Funny enough, the masks were an afterthought. I had finished pencilling in the comic when I realized, “What the hell, it’s Halloween” and scribbled some masks in their place. Some of them are just generic monsters, but getting Captain Spaulding, Betty Boop and especially Pikachu was a nice laugh.
…and don’t forget to catch up before next Sunday; that way you can impress all of the others with your knowledge of this stoopud webcomic!
@SpilledInky Thank you very much, sir. You have been as great of a fan and reader as one could hope for…as for your costume, let us never speak of it again.
THAT IS AN VISUALLY ORGASMIC SCENE!!! I love the look of the lady with the curls in the foreground of the large panel. Dang, Aidan, it would would take me waaay longer than a week to craft eye-candy like this. You must be way ahead of the scheduling game. 🙂
And tell the belly-dancer lass to call me sometime. 😉
Wow! This page is only great! I read this page, and then I’ve scrolled up twice since I started this post and have seen something in it each time that I didn’t see the other times. Wonderful!
Congratulations on two years! And I really dig the “I’m an unhappy clown.” It’s the little things that I find compelling!
Ah, that some people might realize they’ve wasted their lives being snobby a-holes, BEFORE the psychos break in for the massacre.
One can dream…
If I had a nickel for everytime I pictured Pikachu shooting people up, I’d be rich, and now you have put a visual to my daydreams! Great page of chaos! I also love that almost every mask is smaller than their faces. awesome-ness at its pinnacle!
More happy trick-or-treaters!
@George That’s one fine way of describing it! Thank you very much as always. I hope you and the kids had a lot of fun last night.
As for the amount of time, I don’t remember exactly but it did take a while. I usually try to keep a buffer of about four to six months, depending (it’s nice to do a comic which doesn’t revolve around current events…Bearman is a brave, brave soul); this does explain why this Halloween comic just shows up out of nowhere in the story (as I mentioned before, it was just a happy coincidence).
…as for Sita, follow the link above and enjoy the hot and heartbreaking fun!
@Samantha Hey, everyone! It’s the creator of “Life’s a Witch”, paying us a visit! Make sure you read her comic, too. Lot’s of hilarious goodies (and if you think this one page Halloween comic is something, check out her rendition of “The Tell-Tale Heart”!).
Glad you enjoyed the crammed panel…lots of happy memories of MAD magazine still floating around here.
@Dan Thank ya kindly, sir! The unhappy clown should have reason to be happy…it doesn’t look like he got killed!
@Hoomi If only…if only…(I’m clenching my fist and glaring at an invisible enemy). We’ll show them all someday, wont we?
@Roland Oh Lord..Pikachu. I’m remembering all of these stupid twisted Pokemon comics I drew back in high school. I don’t think anyone who went through the “Gotta Catch ‘Em All” craze will ever forget it (like the sixties), but at least we can all laugh again. Thanks for the memories, Roland!
Stunning! This must’ve taken ages….. and before I forget, Happy 2nd Anniversary!
Love the Betty Boop mask too!
Happy 2nd anniversary. Have been following Scapula for about 8 months now and every single story has been outstandingly great. Moreover, you just keep improving. My sincere congratulations.
Oh and a huge LOL at the unhappy clown.
@speearr Thank ya, sir! Here’s hoping we see you kickass comics back in action soon!
@montecristo Many thanks to you, O faithful reader. I’m honored that this comic has had such an awesome group of readers following over the (two) years. It’s made the experience that much more enjoyable (the ‘experience’ being sitting and drawing/coloring for hours on end!).
May we all be happy, happy clowns!
Congrats on two years today, Aidan. I’m looking forward to more Scapular naughtiness!
@Hoomi Thank you very mucho! Scapula naughtiness comin’ right up.
Belated congrats on two years! That’s awesome! Here’s to many more.
Btw, I love the butler. I can hear that voice in my head, crystal clear. 🙂
@Chris Thank you very much, 先輩. Having such nice webcartoonists as friends has made the experience much more enjoyable (except for that psycho Bearman, who keeps throwing roadkill stuffed with poo at my house!).
Oh, yes…the voice…did someone comment on your voice recently?
Now I have that damn song in my head.
@Bearman Haw haw!
Ahhhhh so good!! Your color is really improving, this all looks so great 😀 Happy Anniversary, Scapula!!
@Ash Awwwww, thank you, my dear kind friend. You’ve been SCAPULA’s longest supporter, and have made this journey that much more pleasant.
…except when you made things a Little bit Miserable, Miss!
