Today’s comic works a bit better if you’re familiar with the classic dark comedy The Ladykillers (1955), starring Alec Guiness (whose snaggle-toothed leer is being emulated by Scapula).

Good thing it wasn’t Bombastar. We’d never hear the end of it, and he’d inevitably screw it up. Also, how come Scap didn’t suggest Tigadactyl do it?
And I don’t quite follow his logic. “She’s your aunt, so you do it”?
Anyway, great page, as usual. Favourite panel’s are Babirus’ and Bombastar’s reactions.
HELLO EVERYONE! So sorry for the delay in responding to comments; I just returned from a long trip to Big Wow Comicfest. Lots of fun, but also lots of traveling. Convention recap will be posted soon.
Okay, let’s get to some comments:
The logic behind Scap’s comment is that he just wants someone else to go do the job. That may not sound especially bright, but it’s using force of will to make someone weaker do something they don’t want to do (this is also known as “Bully Logic”).
Thankfully Bombastar has the magnificent power of nonstop whining, able to topple any aggression short of murdering his sorry self!
Aw come on, if one of my family had to die I’d probably feel obligated to do the deed just to see it done right.
Yes, that’s a joke, for those of you who had a momentary pause at that. I grew up half in the sticks. ‘Ya cain’t kill kin!’
He should always know his plans will backfire….or did he really want to do it..hehe
Maybe a little of Column A, maybe a little of Column B?
The Lady Killers…I’ve never seen the whole movie, but I’ve seen bit’s and pieces… is that the one where Alec Guiness has huge teeth?
I wouldn’t suppose his teeth are bigger in that film than any other one, but there’s just something about his wicked leer in that movie that makes his teeth seem all the more predatory. Scapula seems to have gotten the gist of this.
I do recommend watching it. It does move at a slow, calculated pace, but it’s all worth it to see how the band of criminals deal with one another as well as their octogenarian nemesis.
Let the hilarity begin! 20 bucks says she shoots him and apollogizes because she was aiming for a leprechaun transvestite mall-core pokemon addict.
Add a “teenage mutant ninja-” or “mighty morphin power-” to that statement and you’ve pretty much got it.
This obviously cannot end well.
Not that it ever could have. The Scapverse supervillains don’t exactly have the best track record for success.
True, but they do have the ability to drum up a good deal of chaos, and someone ALWAYS gets hurt or killed, yes? Maybe this time it will be their intended victim!
Crunched the numbers on that…… if it does end up being the old lady, odds are it’s natural causes gets her!
I guess ‘death by Scapula’ would qualify as an ‘unnatural cause’…very unnatural.
Babirus may be a sewer-dwelling troglodyte, but it’s nice to know he has principles.
Note to self: Keep the cookie jar full when the Sinister Monster Doom Legion comes a-calling…
Babirus has his own strange code of ethics; keep in mind he has little concept of right and wrong the way we ‘civilized’ folks know it. All he knows is that if someone is nice to him they may be worth following around (as opposed to being turned into leather and barbeque, as cannibal freaks are wont to do to unpleasant people).
He strikes me as being much like some of the really inbred hillbilly neighbors my Pa knows. Yep, scary folks in those corners of the world. Fortunately my Pa migrated into the region from Saskatchewan……
Well, Scapula has been getting a little more gutsy lately. Of course, one wonders the sanity behind asking Hypnausea to do pretty well anything! I’m getting ready to blast ‘Yakkity Sax’ on my computer at some point in the next few comics. I don’t know why but I have a feeling it might be useful to keep handy!
Also, is it me or does Babirus in the last panel look like he knows something’s about to go tits up? Clever little sewer troglodyte!
Yaketty Sax (aka the Benny Hill theme, for the two or three of you who don’t know) seems like it should almost be built into this website; to be activated on whatever page has characters running like the dickens. Hmm, maybe I’ll work with my webmaster on that…
Babirus might qualify as an idiot savant, I suppose. In this case his particular ‘hidden talent’ is not getting killed and (for the most part) avoiding people crazier than himself!
I must confess…I haven’t seen the movie, I was waiting for the comic book to come out!
A comic book based on the Ladykillers? Hmmm…actually, that could work, if it was done over a multi-issue story arc (it is sort of a long movie).
But really, give the movie a try…and if you can’t find it, just keep following this comic! They’re bound to be almost the same!
A delightful homage to an exceptional flick!
Awesome! Glad you liked, man!
I don’t see Scap killing a little old lady, no matter how rotten and worrisome she is. Of course, I have been surprised before by our hero…er, villain.
Can he? Will he? Do he? Who he?
Let’s find out…
