GANGWAY pt.2
I do miss my nights at Death Guild, back in SF; snobs aside, it was always a blast to go there with my friends. Some nights I had fun, some nights I got lucky, and some nights I bombed and ended up much like Scapula here. Ah, the days of our youth…
I tried to get some Ditko textures on the close-up panel of Scapula getting punched. Whaddaya think?
Incidentally, if I didn’t drive the point home last week, this is going to be a BIG storyline, so you’re tuning in at the right time. It seems a number of my webcartoonist friends are taking the summer off (understandably so, since the whole comic strip racket can really take a lot out of a person), but rest assured, I’ll be sticking around with the GANGWAY story. You lucky people you!
Great as always Aidan! I love your use of color and how each panel has its own unique hue.
Hahaha…and was it intentional to have the bartender look like Moe from the Simpsons?
I’d have to be a stupid idiot (or an even stupider one) not to love it, Aidan!
Cool Ink, by the way (and you know I love that)! You should design tattoos, too! 🙂
@Charles Thanks, man! And, yeah, that’s Moe. He transferred to a club so he wouldn’t have to answer any phones!
@SpilledInky Who called you a stupid idiot?! Let me know and I’ll go kick them!
And who doesn’t love a good inkjob?
Love how scapula has to pick his jaw off the floor. He’s not so much of a tough guy though getting beat up by two (or is it 3) women in the same strip.
@Bearman There’s no shame in getting beaten up by a woman. I know, because I have two very tough sisters!
You nailed the Ditko reference! That punch looks absolutely PAINFUL! Ouch!
@David Ditko knew a lot about how to make a painful pose; look at the legs of some of the characters in action sequences and tell me they don’t look broken.
Plus, his later, Objectivist heroes certainly knew a thing or two about REALLY punishing criminals. Intense stuff.
It’s been a busy weekend, man, but you know I gotta stop by here to frolic.
I totally dig the colors in each panel! They suit the discotheque mood wonderfully. And you are da man when it comes to visually displaying a connected punch. 🙂
@George No problemo! We’re all in the rat race. Here’s hoping the webcomic world provides a nice break from the tedium of life, death and taxes!
…and around here, we have pretty colors and dynamic punches to make you feel better about it all!
Agreed, great night club colors!
Can the Twins be considered a “Single”? Hmmm…
@David Why, are you interested…? Maybe Stymie could try asking her out? It’s too bad she’s only a cartoon (somewhere, out there, George is weeping silently).
So happy that everyone’s digging the colors! Someone needs to set up a nightclub just for cartoonists. It would be the coolest dorkfest around!
Yeah… I was also going to comment on the colors! To riff on David’s point… what if one twin is single, and the other isn’t? I imagine there would be some awkward dating moments. Glad to see you’re sticking around for the summer! I will too… It’s nice to give both of my readers new content.
@Jerry Good to know Muddlecreek will be around. IDW Publishing is making a big splash reprinting classic comics from the 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, so your super-awesome retro style is sure to win over a lot of new readers!
As for the twins dating thing, let me tell you this: Eng and Cheng, the famous sideshow Siamese twins, both had wives and sired over eighteen children. I don’t even want to think about how THAT went, but different types make the world go blah blah blah!
Thanks Aidan!…I’ll look out for those IDW collections. That Eng and Cheng story should inspire hope among the single folks… ANYONE can get a date!
@Jerry They’re great looking books, but greatness comes with a price…and I do mean ‘price’ because most of them are around $40 each! I can’t afford any at the moment, but after the armored car robbery I have planned for this weekend I’ll someday be able to buy all the comics I want!
…and, if there’s anyone out there who wants to get me some for my burfday, I’m trying to buy the “Dick Tracy” or “Bloom County” collections…if you were wondering. 🙂
Awesome stuff! That third panel is the probably best punch-in-the face rendering I’ve seen.
Also, I thought I was going to be the first one to notice Moe, due to the subtlety of his placement, but alas, it was pointed out in the first comment. Oh well, I’ll try to jump on such things faster next time.
@Dan Long Moe did end up getting blocked out by the SCAPULA logo, so only the really keen-eyed noticed him. I think he would make WAAAAY more money serving drinks at nightclubs, because those places rip you off like crazy when you need a drink (or need to buy a drink for, uh, someone you’ve noticed).
Thanks for the kind words! Rest assured, for Scapula-punching goodness, you know where to go!
