If any character has gotten a ton of fan hate since this story began, it’s Bone China. I’ve never wanted to ‘step in’ and tell readers who to like and not like, but I will just say that every character (yes, every character) in this comic is guided by their flaws. Will they wise up someday? Well…maybe, but then I’d have no conflict to write about (and then the story turns into that “nice” Itchy and Scratchy cartoon where they smile and drink lemonade).
Patreon-backers may also notice some differences between the final version of this comic and the earlier inked version; remember, folks, I post B&W previews of the Sunday comics every Friday for backers of any amount, so give a little and get more comics!
Feel free to debate in the Comments section and keep on reading, fellow freaks and gothy go-getters!
It never occured to me to hate Bone China. Her story was quite relatable. Low self esteem is one of the worse flaws you can have and it will ruin your ilfe and the life of those around you.
But damn it, if the Cabale kills her it will be too fitting! Can’t they let Vlad keep her in a basement or something? It will be a much worse punishment and it won’t alienate him as much. Unless, of course, they are punishing him too…
As an aside, I feel that even if the character”s flaws are cured eventually, stories will always spring around them. There are other flaws, there are the consequences of your past actions, there are deep seated traits that will bring you in contrast with the world around you… I did enjoy it greatly when Scapula turned from small time crook to crime boss, because seeing heroes repeat the same mistake again and again becomes frustrating. But overcoming it bit by bit while deep isnide still been haunted by it… I feel Scap does that superbly.
Very insightful look at the characters, and thank you for sharing your opinion! I like how you see the positive and negative sides of the situation, which is always a good quality to have (except when waiting in line at the DMV…that’s when optimism sinks to death like Artax the horse in The Neverending Story).
As much as I preach that the characters should be flawed, it always is nice to hear readers say that they are relatable and can even see their strengths. My job is ta make ’em ugly, you folks bring out the beauty in ’em!
At first glance, I read the guy name as “Optimus Prime”. That was a strange clash of genre…
The only thing they have in common is that they’re both space aliens (…probably), and they both make a metric s**tload of money from pure crap (bad paintings for one, Michael Bay movies for the other).
Aww. Here I thought the verdict might be a nice long retreat at a mountain spa to recover from the stresses of recent events! These guys really are just way too free handing out all that death. What are they gonna do when they run out? Borrow some?
“Well, we’re OUT OF CAKE! We only had the three bits and didn’t expect such a rush!”
“You mean my only choice is ‘…or death’?”
Exactly what I was thinking of! Scary. Are you psychic?
