SINISTER MONSTER DOOM LEGION pt.1
I love villains and monsters. That should be dead obvious to anyone reading this series. However, in order to avoid falling into a creative rut I’ve challenged myself to try different types of stories and alternate directions for this series to venture into. With the exception of Dadaman, all of the stories this year have not focused on supervillains (other than Scapula himself, naturally) and most of the baddies I created fell into the wayside…until now.
In this story we’ll be seeing the villainous cast at their utmost baddest, with one notable exception. No Scapula. That’s right, that skull-headed sissy botched his chance at greatness in Gangway and now everyone is going to make do without the little wiener for a while. That’s all well and good, because an even more important villain is coming over the horizon.
In other news, I’ll be making my first convention appearance this October at the Alternative Press Expo (or APE, for you hip acronym users). More details will follow in the weeks to come, but needless to say I’m looking forward to it and hope to see you all there (yes, even you…YOU are awesome).
wait…. WHAAAAAT?!? What do you MEAN, no Scapula?!? How dare you be creative enough not to use your main character! *smirk* … this’ll be interesting!!
Dicephalic, eh? I gotta respect a guy who uses bigger words than I do. 🙂
I’m trying to study your rain so I can replicate it one day. I just can’t figure it out using only Photoshop 6. I’m so limited in my capabilities.
I love the smoking thru the gas mask bit. Nice!
It’s good to know how highly the underworld considers Scapula after his sudden “demise”. 🙂 Can’t wait to see who issued these invitations. You’ve got the coolest rogue’s gallery in webcomics, Aidan!
@jynksie He might be around, but he won’t be quite all there. Patience, children, all shall be explained…and you can get a refund if it makes no friggin’ sense!
@George I’m still using CS4, so you’re already ahead of me (I didn’t even realize CS6 was out!).
What can you say about Toxsick, except that it’s never a bad time to have a cigarette, even if you don’t want to go through the trouble of removing your gas mask first.
I’m glad you like the villains, because you’re sure to see quite a number of them in this story. Stay tuned!
I love the map – very cool!
I think my nose is starting to drip after all the rainy weather, though! 😉
I’m also really excited to hear more about your expo appearance! I’ve never attended one, so I’m always eager to hear about ’em! 🙂
I took a fish head to the movies,
Didn’t have to pay to get it in.
Ear worms, ear worms,
Lousy, stinkin’ ear worms,
I guess this strip will flush out those who listened to Dr. Demento, eh? I suppose we’ll find out in the next story arc, whether Scapula got to listen to the good doctor while he was recuperating from the latest injuries.
No. I mean Photoshop 6. I believe they started naming it CS after 9 came out. I’m way below the line. 😀
Yeah, gimme some villains!
@SpilledInky Well, it’s a table, where I shall be selling stuff. I guess “appearance” is too grand a word; that honor is reserved for Tony Millionaire, who will be appearing at the convention.
The weather is fine, fine San Francisco at its sunny best!
@Hoomi Say, they ARE coming to take Scapula away, ha-HA! Hee hee, ho ho, to the FUNNY FARM! With trees and flowers and chirping birds, and basket weavers who sit and smile and twiddle their thumbs and toes and…well, you know the rest.
@George Oh, hmmm…well, it’s not the size of the program, but how you use it (to paraphrase some wisdom I saw on a bathroom stall).
Villains coming up! Maybe some day This Guy will join the Sinister Monster Doom Legion’s ranks.
What’s an “alternative” press expo expose?
@Bearman It’s a…well…wait, hang on…expo expose…wait…wha?
In any event, a comic convention in San Francisco. Should be a lot of fun!
The rain is outstanding! Also I can not get that song out of my head. “I took a fish head out to see a movie, didn’t have to pay to get it in!”
The invitation reminds me of P.A.G.A.N. – People Against Good And Normalcy from the Dragnet movie!
Great job on the art, btw.
@Roland One of these days I shall see a one of the little buggers drinking cappuccino in an Italian restaurant with Oriental women…YEAH!!!
@Dan Thank ya sir! I haven’t heard of that one, but I’ll have to check it out. The tricky thing was trying to come up with the biggest name I could for the organization; hey, they have to compete with The Legion of Doom, The Brotherhood of Evil, The Guild of Calamitous Intent and the Evil League of Evil!
Aiden, your work is very creepy and disturbing. And you do it so very well. Sometimes I wish I had the courage to do stuff like this, but I don’t. I’m glad someone can. You’re one of the pros. Amazing art and well drawn characters and story arcs. Oh, yeah, and I’m caught up now. :`)
@Jande Oh, come now! Who says you don’t have the courage? Poppycock and baulderdash, I say! Horse feathers! (whew…sorry to lash out like that, but I have an explosive temper!).
All it takes is for you to tell your story. That’s it. All the rest of it (the drawings, the Photoshop, the neat little banner at the top of the page), is just there is advance the story. Plenty of comic creators have done much more with much less, and if you stick to your stories you’ll most likely succeed (of course the drawings and neat little banners are good to know as well).
What do you say, folks? Send Jande some of that good old fashioned Internet support and check out ‘Aedre’s Firefly’!…but be sure you’re back here by next Sunday!
I stand properly chastised and chastened, Sir. Poppycock, baulderdash, and Horse feathers! It was the Horse feathers that did it.
(I didn’t mean to whine , honestly. lol)
Ah, late to the party as usual… but well done man. One, your art is just freakin’ awesome… the rain is outstanding and I bet a bit time consuming! And to do a story arc without the main character is also very cool. Kinda like a season of Magnum P.I. without Tom Selleck… Might have been better…
Good work, my man! And to Jande… just do it. That’s right, screw everyone else and just do it. I started up my comic nearly 3 years ago with nothing more than a really bad sketch of my main character. After 50 really bad comics, I got it and went on to make now over 400 really bad comics! So, just go do it!
Ta-da… 😛
@Byron Good words from Mr. 1977! The man said it himself, folks: tell your story and don’t apologize for it. We can’t all make ‘Watchmen’-level graphic novels on a daily basis, so just get those comics out there!
Tom Selleck…now he might be a candidate for the Sinister Monster Doom Legion.
@Byron I’ve just got caught up on YOUR comic, too. And I’ve seen the improvements. I love the comic and the music you have there, too.
Thanks for the encouragement, guys!
Should I get a copy of watchmen? or would it just depress me. ;`)
Oh! Tomorrow is Sunday! (or today is, rather.)
What? No Scapula? But, but, but…who’ll provide the cheesy laughs and the whiney factor to the storyline??
@macsnafu Hmmm….Eddie Deezen?
