Well, respect to anyone doing it this way and succeeding. ‘Cause it wont be easy to stab yourself in the heart for several reasons. The urge of preservation of your own body not the least…. alongside some purely anatomical reasons, like the sternum and arm leverage.
I suppose it would be more appropriate (and gothy) if she were to use the dagger to slice her arms or wrists, but this just looks more dramatic. Cliches exist for convenience.
You ever stand at the edge of a roof or cliff and have the urge to just step off? Or see a big truck coming down the road and catch yourself thinking you could just hop sideways? It happens, with some more than others.
Don’t be a jerk. Think of the poor janitor who’s gotta clean up your mess, ya thoughtless dweeb! Geez. Oh, and always consider someone might miss you somewhere and they may be very upset.
The cliff-leaping impulse is something I had as a kid (I was really surprised when Matt Groening brought up that very childish urge in Life in Hell). I can’t explain it without having several fancy degrees from expensive universities, so I’ll just ignore it until my next cliffside experience.
That linked comic got me to thinking… have we EVER seen (or will we ever see) Scapula’s natural face, behind the theatrical makeup of disguises and/or his villain-iconic skull mask?
Trev is correct, but I can’t blame people for not knowing that fact. It’s only been mentioned rarely in the comic itself, although you can read a few more details in Scapula’s profile entry in SCAPULA: WORLD’S WORST VILLAIN.

I have it when I’m standing at the BOTTOM of a cliff or tall building. I always end up noting it with some amusement though. I think I’m safe.

I think he had his actual face replaced with a hard plastic shell surgically, so….. that IS his real face, if I recall rightly.
