Looks like the Miscreants are out of the game, although they’re damned lucky to escape with their lives (…maybe). Now Scapula is left with a very large problem on his hands, and three less goons to do the fighting for him!
Incidentally, test your “horror movie geek” cred and see if you can recognize Scap’s clever disguise.
…Wait, I’m a little confused. Is Scapula’s last line because he figured out why they were at the bar with Sam, and is angry at them for it? Because it seems to me that, given how well they’ve served him thus far, that he’d have forgiven them for their previous rivalry during the “Bone China” storyline and therefore having no other reason to talk like this.
This page is still really nice, though. I don’t recognize Scap’s disguise, but he looks really cold and merciless, which works rather well with the environment: an empty, clean hospital ward, adding to the impression that the Homophobe is clearly in a difficult and unforgiving situation.
Scapula doesn’t know that the Miscreants were trying to double-cross him. If you were to only take into account what happened from the Homophobe’s story, and you’re familiar with what kind of idiots the Miscreants are, you would probably assume that the Miscreants just went and picked a fight at a bar for no good reason and got themselves into this mess.
Scapula is definitely disappointed with the Miscreants, and while he isn’t really sad to see them go to the hospital (and jail), he’s probably thinking he may have use for them in the distant future. You never know who you’re going to run into down the line, so be careful about burning bridges, folks.
Glad you enjoyed the artwork!
I’m gonna take a stab at Jeffrey Combs as Herbert West from Re-Animator.
Funny thing about that….. he’s disguised as a character from an H.P. Lovecraft story (if I’m right) while finding out Sam is on the warpath. The same person that was convinced along with him that they were seeing an eldritch abomination based on Lovecraft. Does that count as irony or just a left-field coincidence?
Scap’s getting better with the disguises, which is good….. he might need them to get clear if Sam hits his organization hard enough! Especially since he’s out his most effective disposable goons. Never underestimate the harm a single very violent person can do to a collective unit, and that’s if she acts alone. If Scapula had quick enough wits he might be able to recruit Sam temporarily for purposes of smashing some of Jemini’s operation so she can get a Jemini of her own!
You are correct! I never noticed that coincidence, so let’s pretend some mollusk-mouth deity “willed” it to happen. Maybe next week they’ll all go camping at the mountains where sanity is limited?
Recruiting Sam would take a helluva lot of work (and that’s just getting her to calm down); does Scapula have what it takes to win Sam over to his side?
Uh, yeah. Jemini. Or, at least one of ’em.
Herbert West from Reanimator
Got it! Go reward yourself with a slimy re-animated cat puppet.
Dr. Herbert West from Re-Animator.
You guys are the smartest bunch of horror fans I could ask for!
If he were smart, he’d check the story with Rizz just as a precaution.
If he were smart.
Maybe it’s on his grocery list, after ‘pick up milk’ and ‘shoot those punks who rob the liquor stores before I do’.
Yup, was going to say the same as the rest…
At least you didn’t just copy and paste the comments. That would be silly!
I feel proud of myself in that I also got the Reanimator character! Hooah!
Give yourself a pat on the back and a shot of the glowing green stuff…y’know, if you want to be in excruciating pain!
You were gonna kill them, weren’t ya. And then I complained.
And now the angel of death is on MY shoulder instead.
God dammit, Casserly. This is what I get for loving your comic.
Who lives and who dies is decided by a number of factors, including what serves the story, what possibilities the character has for the future, and whether or not their death would be really funny.
Awwwww, please don’t kill the Miscreants off for reals! They make such a good foil for this new, semi-competent but still neurotic incarnation of our favorite bonehead.
Will the Miscreants survive? And will Wanda the nurse still love Dr. West, even when she learns his true identity? It’s all on the next episode of…GENERALLY BAD HOSPITAL. (cue organ music)
I’m rather surprised that Scapula didn’t um…put him outta his suffering. Maybe he’s got better plans for him down the road. In the field of villainy, it’s kinda hard to trust someone not to rat on you, so I hope Edgar knows what he’s doing (this time).
It looks like he was considering that route (he’s not just looking at that syringe ‘cuz it’s shiny!), but decided to just give him a ‘time-out’ in prison. As for the ratting, he’s kept them on the line with fear so far…but will that work on an underling who’s off in the pen? We’ll have to wait and see.
Scap is getting better at the makeup. Maybe he can do a better job scoring with a new look ha
Just you wait; his next disguise will be Shemp Howard. Eeep eep eeep eeep eeep!
I AM glad you saved the Miscreants, even if they’re out of play right now. I don’t know why I have an affection for three of your most loathsome, mindless characters. I think these guys just have too much personality to waste!
Maybe it’s that God-protects-fools-and-drunks thing, or maybe The Homophobe has finally humanized alcoholic redneck criminal trailer trash for me. *shudder* Unlike some of the other villains, the Miscreants really seem to be so stupid that they have no idea what they’re doing. I don’t know if “forgive them, they know not what they do” is appropriate, but certainly they’d have more plausible deniability/defense-by-insanity-or-moronity in court than any of the other villains. 🙂
