They’re closing in on you…they’re coming to get you…okay, Scapula always thinks that way (might have to do with having a wee bit too much caffeine/nicotine). The killers are coming in at every angle; will the Sinister Monster Doom Legion survive?
On a more pleasant topic, congratulations to both cartoonists Howie Noeldechen (Tara Normal) and Bill Walko (The Hero Business) on their astounding Kickstarter campaigns. Will there be another one for SCAPULA? Only Tim will tell (and so will Time, but Tim is such a damned blabbermouth he’ll probably say it first. Go to hell, Tim!).
Well, paranoia CAN be justified at times. I’m really curious how bad a situation it must be for Toxsick of all people to be covered in blood, considering he’s the last guy most people would ever want to get close to. And Babirus again in the head? Lucky for him that seems to be a pretty nonvital area!
Minor nitpick, the guy firing his pistol with two hands has his thumb in the way of the slide, so unless he’s only firing once (or just lost his thumb!), not good for the gun’s action. Or, you know, his hand. Slide bite is bad enough on just the skin, trust me….. made the mistake of holding a gun too far up the grip at my dad’s pistol club speed-shoot one year. You NEVER do that twice unless you’re completely stupid. I wouldn’t want to get my whole thumb caught in speed-cycling red-hot metal!
A major flaw which I will attribute to one fact: I HATE DRAWING GUNS. Can’t stand it, for two notable reasons. 1) they never come out looking right unless if I directly copy from a photo source, and 2) I’ve never actually fired a gun myself (I’m likely to be one of those ding-dongs who knock themselves unconscious the first time they pull a trigger).
It seems like a crime comic would have drawing a gun as a top priority requiring thorough research (if you draw a a Western story you better damned well know how to properly draw a horse), but I’ve simply never had much affinity for firearms, which is why Scapula is the only member of the SMDL to occasionally use one (yes, I know about Toxsick’s gas/sludge pump cannon, but that’s a made-up device).
That said, keep correcting me, people. I won’t learn otherwise!
I say it’s a minor nitpick because I actually half expected it to be on purpose. Many ‘gangstas’ actually ARE dumb enough to do things like that.
I was going to include a misadventure about Woobly-Doofums, the stupidest gangsta, who shoots a gun indoors. The bullet ricochets around the room, breaking everything and causing chaos. Then the boss (who would be played by Ed Asner) bursts out of his office shouting, “WOOOOOOOBLEEEEEEE!”, to which Woobly-Doofums turns to the camera and shrugs. Play theme music (which we’ll just steal from Dif’rent Strokes instead of paying a musician for something new).
Babirus is strangely coherent and capable, if they’ve got him playing getaway man. No, not just for someone who took a bullet to the brainpan (though he is), but compared to his usual nigh-unintelligible gurgles and fumblings.
When you’ve taken a lot of lumps your entire life you (probably) get used to it. I dare even say Babirus would be nonfunctional if he DIDN’T get clocked in the noggin once in a while!
“Ah gah shawt inna head…”
Last time he said that, he crashed a chopper. Some people just excuses for everything!
But seriously, I like this page. It tells a lot without much words and a good cut. Especialy the last panel. The first panel looks cool enough to mention it seperately ^^
Glad you enjoyed, and be sure to be here next week when Babirus tries his filthy hands at piloting a submarine (maybe)!
We’ve seen Scap outwardly scared, cowardly, and freaking out. But this is the first time I think we’ve actually seen this kind of inward fear. Seen him scream and cry and run. But never seen him actually shake with fear.
Good observation; while Die Kabale’s onslaught finally push Scapula over the edge? Let’s find out!
Monday’s update is going to be EPIC! :3D
