Longtime SCAPULA-readers will know that it’s very rare for me to make references to contemporary pop culture (the only outside references in this comic usually allude to old monster movies and Alice Cooper), so today’s installment may be a bit of a surprise. For those who don’t know, I’m clearly making a parody of the violent smash-hit television series, Ugly Betty (wait, is that even on the air anymore?…huh…now you know why I don’t reference television much).
Sons of Anarchy was an okay show. I used to watch it when my girlfriend and her coworkers had their ‘TV Nights’ (which I am no longer allowed to attend, after going ‘MST3K’ on total crap like House of Lies and Californication). I’m guessing that nearly half of SoA‘s runtime was dedicated to Jax’s ‘dramatic pause speeches’; why these went on and on is likely either a) long pauses supposedly add ‘weight’ to what you’re saying, or b) it’s a convenient way to hide an actor’s Australian accent.
That’s also Danny Trejo in panel 2; SoA fans, please don’t bother pointing out that Trejo’s character on that show wasn’t in Samcro, because I just don’t care. I put in Danny Trejo because he is awesome (like I need to tell you to go watch The Devil’s Rejects).
Well, I got that joke out of my system, and it sorta’ tied in with the story. Carry on, Berserkers.
Dun dun DUNNNNNN!
What is that, the start of the ‘Star Trek fight music’?
No, no, that’s more “dun-dun-dun-wee-wee-woo-wee-woo-WEE-woo…”
Jenn did warn about torquing off the bartender……. Oh, Rizz. Here’s hoping you live long enough to get back to your bar. I kinda like the place.
Hey, who so negative? Of course she has a chance of survival! Doesn’t everybody?
….okay, I said a “chance”, not a “guarantee”.
Everyone has a guarantee they won’t survive, the question is how violent and early is the end? Death ain’t exactly a shirk on the paperwork.
Oh man!!! Rizz’s Revenge!! So obviously he knows about what happened to Jenn and he’s taking it all out on Scap. No really surprising that Scap now has another name to “people who hate his guts” list but is interesting that it is the bartender. Its been a long time since Ive last seen him (first time I met him, I though he was a manly girl). I wonder what other characters will come back that were long gone before.
Here’s the easiest way to make a list of who hates Scapula: take a phone book, cross out the title, and then write in “People who hate Scapula”!
Wait… Agh!!!! So is Rizz a boy or girl? I can never tell!!!!!
A handy-dandy guide to the gender-ambiguous cast of SCAPULA (print out, clip out, and tape to your monitor!):
Rizz: girl
Hypnausea: boy
Little Miss Miserable: girl
Knuckle Sam: dead girl
Dog Doo Dog: dead boy
Scapula: probably a boy, but the results have yet to come in.
What Rizz is: A heavily tomboy lesbian.
What she looks like: A dude with boobs.
Rizz, you were neutral for a reason: you know that taking sides is a bad idea. “Only way to win is not to play” and all that. Your first mistake was giving Sam tips on what Scap’s gang was doing. Deny it all you want, but you know DAMNED well that doing this was taking sides. Truly neutral would have meant keeping your mouth shut.
You got yourself involved and, by giving Sam fuel for her rampage, got her killed. Period.
So as much as I kinda liked you in the past … I am not going to shed a tear when Scap guts you. Sorry.
A very interesting viewpoint; what do you think, folks? Has Rizz strayed too far from neutral territory to walk away from this one?
I agree with GreyWolf 100%. She’s definitely strayed well past neutral and she’s apparently decided to keep going.
Definitely. Scapula let her live last time only because he appreciated Rizz’s position as a neutral, and her bar as a DMZ for the gangs, more or less. And as heartless as he may act, he’s shown that in reality he’s anything but, he just keeps it buried so he doesn’t get hurt. So he gave credit for Rizz’s feelings towards Sam, knowing that if he were in that position he probably would have done the same.
But now? Rizz is actively taking sides, and doing it directly against Scapula. Not just taking a side that happens to throw flak his way, but deliberately working against him. This is no “with us or against us” idiocy – she had the choice of staying out of it but she teamed up with the opposition and is playing a part.
Effectively she signed her death warrant if Scapula gets wind of her being in it. If that happens … ‘bye, Rizz, was sorta nice known ya.
I would hold a different view, myself, if only because I’m a contrary jerk. I mean, Rizz is human. She has her own emotions and motivations just like anyone. ‘Neutral’ is a choice, just like action is a choice. And we all make mistakes. I personally would give her a chance to go back to her bar and think her life over again if I had a shot……. a little mercy can sometimes be a very powerful thing. Many a general has been recruited in wars the world over by defeating them and letting them live. Meng Huo was defeated SEVEN times by Zhuge Liang in ancient china before his people (the Nanman) finally were convinced to join the armies they had threatened previously, and they became considerable assets.
Not disagreeing with you – as rational (sorta) beings most of us would say the same thing. I’m just saying what’s going to be on Scapula’s mind – and it’s not good news for Rizz. 😉
Rizz in the hizzous!
Rizzle kadizzle! Geez, are people still talking like that?
