Here we are, my friends. Today, at 750 comic posts, over seven years runtime and however much lunacy, this webcomic serial before you has come to a somewhat-happy ending (depending on how you interpret the scene above).
Scapula and the Sinister Monster Doom Legion have been through a lot of chaos and craziness, but now they’re more powerful than ever. What new madness will the villains encounter when they return?
To everyone who has followed along, whether you’re a new reader or a longtime follower, thank you so very much for your readership and support. This has been a rocking adventure, and I can only hope that you have enjoyed the show.
This isn’t ‘farewell’, however. Tune in next Sunday for news about what’s happening next with SCAPULA!
It would have been so easy to let Scapula crash and burn in a tragicomedic fashion but what you did was so much more poignant and touching. I loved it and I hope to see more of them in the future -though it does feel concluded and whole.
Very glad you enjoyed; there’s a time and a place for Monty Python-esque endings (preferably in Monty Python comedies), but this wasn’t one of them. And yes, you are correct, the ending was designed to be self-contained, so in the odd chance I drop dead in the following year the series will still feel complete.
*slow clap*
Fantastic!
Thankyew, thankyew, and-a thankyew!
You’re awesome man, I remember I started reading this after finding Scap in the cross over you did with the guy always searching for answers comic, Edward finnery or something close to that. I think scapula has been my favorite long running comic since Calvin & Hobbes. Good luck with your following projects!
Comparing Scapula to Calvin & Hobbes? I’m not worthy!
I didn’t realize that doing the Edmund Finney crossover would have had such positive results, so I guess I should thank Dan Long or something. Maybe have his character cross over into this comic…naw, that would be stupid.
Thank you, Aiden. Thank you so very much.
Anytime, and I hope you have enjoyed.
Well done. Our little Scapula has grown from pitiful, incompetent loser to somewhat successful purveyor of evil. I couldn’t be more proud if he were my own son. It just goes to show the old Dale Carnegie adage: “if you want to succeed, increase your failure rate.” I’m looking forward to seeing Scapula again one of these days!
Great observations, Mr. D. Ten thousand failures will (probably) lead to success, and it looks like Scapula has gone through those ten thousand and then some!
I’ve been reading this comic for years, and it has been a pleasure throughout. You took Scapula on an incredible journey of self development, where progress wasn’t always forward, but we were invested all the way. I never thought I’d be rooting for such a whiny coward, but I found by the end that wasn’t accurate anymore. I fully expect the next Scapula comic to be a nonstop slideshow of Throgor eating people, defecating in alleys, and sleeping with hyenas (not that way).
Throgor: The Animated Series? Hey, I’ve seen worse ideas on television!
Glad you enjoyed, Gabe, and thank you for your kind comment.
(Stands up, applauds.)
Sits back down, some nerd shouts, “I didn’t say Simon says!”, said nerd gets punched, everyone applauds, sits down regardless of lack of orders from ‘Simon’ or his nerdy enforcer.
Absolutely Beautiful. I too found this comic through the Edward finny cross over. probably would have never found it without that. so whats next? A comic set in the same universe but from the other side of the law?
There are definitely things to come! We’ll see more details on Sunday, or you can see the news on the Patreon page this Friday.
The fact that this is probably the happiest ending possible for Scap is actually really depressing.
Well done, Aiden. Thank you for the great comics.
Happy you enjoyed, Xydux, and there’s nothing quite like a depressingly happy ending (now all the characters need to be crucified while singing ‘Always Look On the Bright Side of Life’).
It’s really hard to say if this is a ‘happy’ ending. It’s definitely a case of ‘be careful what you wish for’. I mean he wanted wealth, fame, and all that but in the process look what happened. You can have anything you like if you’re willing to give things up: freedom, safety, loved ones. It’s usually not worth the price.
I’m hopeful that Scap has found something in all this that rewards him, and I hope your work here has been more rewarding! Looking forward to the future!
And thank you for your efforts to entertain us. You have succeeded at every turn.
As I’ve always ranted in these comments, the interpretation of good and bad is up to the reader. Whether this is a happy ending or a depressing one is all in how you see it (and no, this isn’t some ‘personality test’), just how it has been from the beginning (or around the beginning, maybe after the first year of scribbly stories).
Scapula will continue to entertain us, and I will certainly be around for all of you wonderful readers.
Mother would be pleased. (That’s a little creepy, ain’t it? Good thing our last name isn’t Voorhees)
Or Bates.
Naw, I appreciate the sentiment. I hope she would have liked this ending (despite the fact that Knuckle Sam was not magically resurrected).
You know if you’d pulled that marvel comics bullshit she’d spin in her grave like a turbine. I’m sure she would have appreciated this end as much as any other comic.
Oh yeah, happy new year. To you and the SMDL
Said it before, saying it again: death in the Marvel Universe is the equivalent of the annual two-weeks vacation.
I’m crying, I’m laughing, I’m excited to see new things, I’m sad at losing old things. It’s been a hell of a ride. You were born to do this man, almost nobody finishes a webcomic…I know, I tried to do three for four years and quit doing art all together afterwards.
It’s been great watching how Scap blossomed from being a joke into a plot point to be reckoned with.
Fan for life. <3
Thank you so very much for your kindness; it honestly means a lot to know that my work has had that effect on people. The show is definitely not over just yet, so here’s hoping you will like what’s coming up (very) soon!
It’s been a good trip. It had better come back some day.
What else am I gonna do besides making Scapula comics? Get a real job?!
It’s been one hell of a ride!
Thankya kindly!
… and the show MUST go on!
It’s been a fun ride. I must say that I enjoyed the goofy-ness that was Scapula in the beginning… There was more Mad magazine-like antics which have morphed into much more of a serious, but always beautifully drawn and colored comic. It was delicious (a Hypnausia word) to watch your drawing style become more polished and your storylines much more calculated. I hope that you don’t go too far, Aidan… your work is excellent (as is that final panel!) Cheers!
It’s really odd hearing someone say they liked the early Scapula stories, but to each their own (…but really? That stoopud Tempest story?!). If anything it’s great to know that people are forgiving of my early work.
I will certainly be around, and if you didn’t see Hypnausea die then we can only assume he’s still around as well!
That Tempest story was FANTASTIC, you hack. 🙂
Somehow throughout the entire run of this strip you never seemed to realize that frequently Scap was at its absolute best and most entertaining when it was also at its absolute dumbest. “Edgar Allen Po-Po”, anyone?
…anyway, I hope Scap isn’t done for good. But it’s a fitting coda to this moment in time.
Well done and I’m glad to have been along for the ride!
Thank you very kindly, Andrew. It’s always flattering to know that the stupidest things that come out of my mind will have an audience somewhere, somehow.
As for what’s next for Scap…find out on Sunday!
