For the unacquainted: Dr. Caliban (née Oliver Cabilani) is an old acquaintance/annoyance to Scapula. They first met up trying to get mutual revenge on a snotty girl in THE SICKO SIX storyline, later meeting up again when Scap went brain-dead in THE CUPBOARD OF DR. CALIBANI.
Following a long absence Dr. Caliban returned after getting his engineering degree; now able to construct mechanical weapons of death, he still got his butt kicked and shoved into a parking meter pole. His bad attitude hasn’t changed much.
Hm, well, this was called earlier. I wasn’t actually expecting it to be him, but it makes sense since he’s one of the only tech-heads in the Scapula universe with this kind of expertise.
I can already see where this is going to come apart if Scap doesn’t lay off a tad. Yes, criminal types respond best to a firm guiding hand and occasional threats, but don’t go out of your way to piss them off. Like pirates, they can always turf your corpse into the nearest fire and get a new leader!
Also, like pirates, they can just rig your robots to explode or kill YOU instead (I’m sure some pirates did that…). We’ll see how well Scap and Oliver get along this time, considering that they’ve never really gotten along before.
Dr. Graham Pah would have never gone in for this foolishness!
Would it be the classic case in wich the small scale robbery for money acquisition takes off beautifully, but the actual score fails in catastrophic manner?
Scap isn’t known to go for subtle.
There must have been a lot of money sunk into the presentation aspect of the robbery, but supervillains rarely think practical. If you spend money to make money AND make an impression, so be it!
Man, I haven’t seen that guy in a long time. I like how your universe is showing more and more continuity and cohesiveness, Aidan.
Thankya, George! There’s both upsides and downsides to expanding a fictional universe: there’s more to draw on for story ideas and establishing characters, but the rules you’ve been setting yourself up for all along are now more enforced than ever. Of course, I can always do a Dadaman story and screw continuity!
