So Toxsick’s name is Roy, eh? Don’t think we’d heard that before, unless I just missed it. He’s still my favorite one in the Legion.
And unless Scap is a quick-change artist too, this trashes my thought that it was him driving the car in disguise – guy at the wheel looked disturbingly similar to a disguise Scap used in the SMDL storyline, so I suspected it was him. Guess not.
BTW, I am really digging the new art. It may not look as “underground” or “edgy” as it did before – but it looks hella sharper and the characters just seem to have more personality, just by their new look. Keep it up!
::ponders::
So, pray tell … we get to see sometime soon how the new style treats my beloved BC? Hm? 🙂
I think I had everyone’s “secret identity” posted in the CAST page (which has since been integrated into the NEW READER? page), but it looks like that was phased out in the updates. In any event, Toxsick’s name is Roy Clement.
It’s also interesting that you mention how fast Scapula ditched the car, ripped off his jumpsuit and came in the back entrance, because he did make another lightning fast change in the first couple of pages of the SINISTER MONSTER DOOM LEGION story arc. How? How should I know, I only created these damn comics?!
Regarding the new look of the strip, I had been wanting to make the characters more “on model” (in that there’s more consistency in their appearances) and gave nearly all of them a cleaner, revamped design. You can see most of them back on the ‘hiatus’ post I did.
Lovin’ the contrasting personalities of the bunch (Our animatronic costume wearing stunt-man is kinda silent, though).
And the reply to “‘tard, make yourseld useful”, hilarious, as always.
If I remember correctly, however, Mr.Casserly (should I call him that?) commented that Throgor looked that way because his mother had womb cancer (either that, or I got high without realising it and my memory plays tricks on me).
If this is true, then, how the F-bomb does that work?
Glad you enjoyed the wackiness!
Womb cancer…womb cancer…hmmm. I might have made some comment before about how mercury poisoning has been known to cause extreme birth defects in people and animals, but not sure if I ever gave that as the official cause of Throgor’s unique set of DNA. It’s a theory.
As for HOW it works, heck, if we were going to try to decipher how comic book mutations work, I’d say we go bug the folks who make X-Men!
True! Here we go: http://www.scapulacomic.com/?p=151
I also must add, though, Scapula’s comment “making sure the harm comes to those who deserve it” shouldn’t imply letting them kill each other?
Well, waddya know! There it is…funny how I couldn’t remember something from 2009 (actually, maybe not; I can’t even remember where I left my keys).
Great job combing those archives. Give yourself a cookie!
*Pantpantpant* Danged clones…Anyways, I Heartily approve of what you’re doing with Scapula. A character who is a pathetic loser is only fun for a short while, then he gets old. I look forward to seeing what he’s going to do…and to whom.
Send in….the CLONES…
Glad you’re enjoying Scapula’s new outlook on life so far! We’ll see if his luck has changed since his last painful defeat, but for here and now he’s got the right attitude.
Well, well. At least he managed to get the new monster models fixed up, and get a new costume and hideout together.
It wont take long for Scap’s dignity to fall apart, I’m sure. This bunch of misfits likely has all the unity of a pack of wolves fighting over a fresh kill. Not to mention patience enough to fill an eggcup between them. Still, the new SMDL is like to have muscle, and since Scap is the *cough* brains of the outfit this time around…
Oh, who am I kidding? I just hope they have enough sense to run for it this time when everything falls apart…and for a stretch, try again later…
The wax museum hideout was something I had been wanting to add to SCAPULA for a long time, but for some reason it took Scap (or me) this long to actually make it look like a genuine house of horrors. Really, could a villain ask for a cooler lair than that?
We’ll have to wait and see if this time around will be any more successful for the Sinister Monster Doom Legion, but maybe they’ll fare better with a perverted demonic sock puppet glowering over them.
I really look forward to see where this is going… love the interactions among the rogue’s gallery!
Great to hear, Jerry! There’s much more villainous griping on the horizon.
Love what he’s done with the place. 😀
Funny how a few wax statues of monsters can spruce a place up.
Hey, where’s Hypnausea’s big hat?
I left it out of today’s comic because it screwed with the composition (it would have blocked the view of a lot more interesting things in the background).
Let’s just assume he left it in the backroom before he and Scap went out on their errand.
It’s interesting seeing Scapula portray a competent ringleader. So far, he hasn’t done anything silly or goofy…YET. I would love to see him actually pull off a caper, but I know that you probably won’t make it that easy for our villain.
He hasn’t done anything silly or goofy…until the ‘camera’ pans down on those last two panels and reveal his pink skirt and knee-high socks. It could happen!
As for what Scapula has in mind for this crew of creeps, we shall soon see!
All bad things come to those who wait! Mean job on the art too, Aidan!
Thanks, Mark! Mean comic characters like these deserve only the meanest art!
Okay, I keep laughing myself sick about these guys’ dialogue. I think the ones who say less actually make me laugh harder! Also, note to self, I think the Dr. Trevor column was bang on with observations on these clowns.
I still wouldn’t want to tangle with the group of them (although I’m fairly sure I could take on most of them one on one….. Notable exceptions: Toxsick because I can’t punch out poison gas, and Tigadactyl because I’ve tried to slug out a stuntman before and they just don’t get frigging hurt! Had him show me a few tricks after that.)
Trevor’s articles are always a real pleasure to read, and I think he analyzed them quite well [for those of you who missed his analyses of the villains, start off here].
On the whole I’d like to think this is a pretty strong group; they might fare better this time around without tyrannical leadership or insane megalomaniac schemes.
Maybe.
